1 year 12 shots, year 3
Another year has passed. My wife and I have been keeping up our tradition of taking monthly post-wedding photos in our wedding gear. So, without further ado, let’s take a temporary break from my beloved nature and revisit this year. Let me know which one is your favorite!
July 2021
Earlier last year my parents in law bought their new home on plans. After much expectation, the apartment was ready for a first check in July. We opted for a collage of ourselves inspecting every aspect of the place. Also it was my mother in law’s birthday, that’s why she is the heroine of the last image.
August 2021
Last summer was marked by our first try at growing plants, we grew 31 basils! My hand was a little heavy when I planted the seeds… Thanks to that, we had delicious caprese tomatoes! We also shared a good number of pots with friends which was the most rewarding part of this adventure.
Septembre 2021
Only one shot for September! Haemin had been working hard to perform her first pull up. She did manage her first this month at home, so we shot this image at the park as a last challenge for her. It was a long, hard project for her, so her success was bright and inspiring to me. If you have a similar goal, do not give up, you can absolutely do it!
October 2021
October was a special month for me. It was my birthday, but more importantly I “broke free” of my job. It was a true breath of fresh air, allowing me to focus solely on landscape photography. My wife got quite worried since we lost an income source but supported me entirely in my transition. I cannot be more grateful to her: thank you so much 자기.
november 2021
Another series at home. Last one, I promise! This month, after a couple of months of reflection, Haemin opened her podcast. It is a weekly Korean podcast about the French language and French culture. If you are interested, find us on Podbang or Apple Podcast under the name 밍구맹구!
December 2021
In this end of year, I was blessed with the opportunity of exhibiting my photos for the fist time. It was such an exciting moment that I am really proud of! You can see us in front of the walls where my work was hang, holding the exhibition poster and one of the frames. The place is a wine bar ran by a Kyrgyz-French couple. I can’t thank them enough so if you find yourself in Seoul, in search of a good glass of wine, make sure to visit the Donum Solis Winehouse.
January 2022
Do you remember this waterfall? Last year, in summer, we shot right here. Check the last photo of this carousel to see it. We wanted to return in the winter for our project to show how time passes and how both seasons are beautiful. It wasn’t the coldest picture in our project but it was really cold! Give Haemin a thought for her valiant effort…
February 2022
This 2 image set is actually the story of a failure… During a family trip to Jeju, we decided to shoot our monthly picture under a gorgeous tree we found in the past. But… We forgot it was winter! Yes, in the winter, trees are leafless! And the weather really didn’t play along… Still we braved the wind and the cold to make the best of our mistake.
March 2022
2022 is a big election year, both in Korea and in France. In Korea first. March was the presidential election that saw the beginning of a reversal of the powers in place in the country. Regardless of one’s opinion on the result, I always found highly beautiful how this ±30 year old democracy is such a vivid one. Bravo Korea!
April 2022
In April it was my turn to vote for my president. The contrast was really stark between the Korean presidential election and the French one. When the Korean election brought a massive fervor nation-wide, the French one mostly brought disappointment and disillusionment. Feelings that I share entirely. However, regardless, voting is a privilege in the world so I exercised my right regardless.
Also this month, I opened my second solo exhibition, this time, focused on the path I have followed from a dedicated cityscaper to a loving nature photographer. The bouquet was given to us as a celebration for the opening. I want to thank all those who came to both/either of my exhibitions, whether you enjoyed a glass of wine or a vegan dessert.
May 2022
This year we are breaking our tradition a little. In May and June we always select photos of our weddings to celebrate our wedding anniversaries. However, this time, this month, a friend couple celebrated their wedding traditionally in one of the palaces in Seoul. I was honored to be the 기럭아범 during the ceremony. My role was that of a noble who gives his blessing to the newly wed couple by giving to the groom a wooden duck, symbol of long lasting love. All that said, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity so we took our photos in the palace. I also wore the ceremonial clothes that you can see in the first images. You can see our newly wedded friends in one picture and a new friend, Alexia, in her red Hanbok, helping us being funny, as always.
June 2022
In celebration of our June Korean wedding here is a collection of some of our pre-wedding studio shoot. Look at this beautiful flower surrounded by colorful flowers…
We have now reached the end of the year. Looking back, I realize how eventful it has been and how both my wife and I have grown during that time. More and more, I enjoy looking back once in a while, if only to understand my personal evolution as an artist and a husband. I guess that’s what it means to get older! Of these 12 months, the result is quite dramatic, I’m certain this year will remain as a fulcrum in my life. Only time will tell and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store!
Thank you ever so much for following our post-wedding project. I will be returning to the mountain next month, if weather allows, with some waterfalls.
